Mumps outbreak blamed on religious group vaccine abstinence

This story from Canada's Vancouver Sun details a major mumps outbreak in British Columbia that health officials are blaming groups refusing to be vaccinated.

The cases have been difficult for provincial health workers to manage, and have have complications like meningitis, according to the story.

An interesting sentence is this one: "Public health officials have declined to disclose the church affiliations, saying that would violate confidentiality, but said the denominations' interpretation of the Bible dictates their aversion to vaccines."

That was all that was said on the matter, and there is no development of the idea or any explanation of why some religious groups might forego vaccination, which I thought would have been interesting to know.
