Religion, culture topics of Times column

This blog post from the New York Times discusses the role of cultures in very diverse schools. The author likens culture to an iceberg, with a few small obvious effects, but many more hidden beneath the water.

One of the most interesting sections is about religion and the kindergarteners the author discusses. She writes They excitedly exclaim that “God lives in the sky” or “God lives in us” or “Allah lives on a cloud near the moon.” before going on to discuss the role that religious difference plays in some heated classroom arguments.

The examples the writer provides bring the religious issues alive and serve as a good model.
