Politcs, religion mix in Asia again

The AP has this story today about the strained relationship between China and Taiwan following the visit of Tibetan religious leader the Dalai Lama to "comfort" victims of a recent typhoon.

This article had a good capsule summary of the history of Beijing's disquiet with the Dalai Lama and of the relationship between China and Taiwan, although the visit is framed most as a political move, rather than a religious one.

Beijing's Xinhua news agency had this story of protests by Taiwanese over the visits. Interestingly, the state-run news service also had a story about the religious significance, which can be found here, and mentions religiously motivated relief efforts coming from China.
