Are mega-churches part of a desire for bigger, better everything?

I thought this post on academic venting site Rate Your Students was interesting for it's mention of mega-churches as a part of a generally super-sized life being sought by today's students and their parents. "Every aspect of their lives is mega- and easily purchased." And college serves as a way to increase spending power to increase the scale of everything.
