CNN Ticker is reporting that presidential candidate Barack Obama is trying to counter e-mails alleging that the Senator, a member of The United Church of Christ is a Muslim who is using his affiliation with the denomination to hide his Muslim commitment.
Obama is quoted as saying the emailed rumors surface where ever the next primary is scheduled. His campaign has sent mailers to registered Democrats in South Carolina calling the Senator "a committed Christian" and depicting Obama with religious symbols including a pulpit and a cross.
The article does not mention the "not that there's anything wrong with that" aspect of rejection of Islam as Obama's religion. The candidate's web site states "Barack Obama is a committed Christian and believes the people of all faiths have a place in American public life."
